GLEBE TREES AND SHRUBS
European birch (Betula pendula)
These photos were taken May 7 and May 10, 2008 at Fletcher's - arboretum.
European birch bark hardly peels, and the tree has black triangles below its branches. The leaves are more
triangular and dainty than those of white or yellow birch.
Similar species
Regarding the bark: white birch, trembling aspen. Trembling aspen bark is greenish-white, does not peel
at all, and looks like the tree has been bandaged.
